The City of Atlanta has scored its seventh consecutive perfect score on the Municipal Equality Index (MEI). With a total raw score of 107, the 2019 report awards the City of Atlanta its highest-ever score on the MEI, which scores the inclusivity levels of a city’s laws, policies, and services impacting LGBTQ constituents. Cities are rated based on non-discrimination laws, the municipality as an employer, municipal services, law enforcement and city leadership’s public position on equality. LifeLine Animal Project will host a Black Friday Mega Adoption Event weekend with free adoptions at all of LifeLine’s shelters from Nov. 29 to Dec. 2. As a bonus, there will be no additional charge for the animal’s spay/neuter, microchip and vaccines – a $300 value. LifeLine’s shelters are full, so hundreds of dogs and cats looking for homes. Shelters are located at 3280 Chamblee Dunwoody Road; 860 Marietta Blvd. NW; 3172 E. The Atlanta Police Department has been awarded a H.E.A.T. (Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic) grant for $332,970 by the state’s Governor’s Office of Highway Safety. This grant is designed to help reduce fatal and serious injury car crashes within the City of Atlanta due to impaired driving, speeding, seatbelt violations, and distracted driving. The grant will allow the Atlanta Police Department to create a specialized task force of three officers trained to improve highway safety. Additionally, the grant will fund the purchase of three H.E.A.T. vehicles and specialized equipment specific to the unit’s mission.
