More than 1.3 million Georgia workers have filed initial unemployment claims since the middle of March as the Covid-19 pandemic shuttered many of the state’s businesses.
Last week, the Georgia Department of Labor processed 266,565 claims, up 19,000 from the week of April 10-17, when it processed 247,003 initial claims, it announced April 30. That prior week’s number had pushed the statewide total of initial claims to 1,090,536 claims.
