Savannah Regional Film Commission – Crew Highlights: LeAnne Mims Jackson, Script Supervisor

“Growing up in Charleston, SC, I knew at an early age that I wanted to work in film, but it took me a while to find my niche. After graduating with a BA in Film Study from The University of North Carolina Wilmington, I worked in Extras Casting with Vanessa NCasting, as well as Hair/Makeup, Wardrobe and Set Dec for commercials before falling into Script Supervising. Once I became a self-taught Script Supervisor, I never looked back. After living in Wilmington, NC for 10 years, I bounced around the country working as far north as New York and as far west as Oklahoma. After meeting my husband, a Locations Manager at the time, we moved to Savannah, GA to continue my film career and start our family.

PRODUCTION STORIES

In 2014, I was working on a small film in Birmingham, AL when a huge snow storm rolled through the South. Everyone thought that it would blow over so we all showed up for work, completely underestimating what the snow would do. We were stranded on set before we even broke for lunch. The cast and crew ended up sleeping on set with borrowed pillows and blankets from neighboring homes and living off of craft service and alcohol taken from the “Bar Set” of one of the scenes shot that day. The next day filming was canceled and the sun melted enough of the snow that we could drive home in the afternoon. We all bonded pretty well that night!

I found out I was pregnant during preproduction for The Act: Season 1. I worked through the entire show while growing a little human and I learned so much about myself and our film community during those months. I have never felt more empowered in my job than I was on that set. I love how supportive our Savannah Film Community is toward women in film!
